Social Confidence
Building social confidence is a natural part of social dancing. As you begin to gain skills you will feel more comfortable physically connecting with your own body and dancing with a partner. This can boost your confidence, making you feel more ready to socialize and connect with others.
Dance is more than just physical; and while the benefits are innumerable, we wanted to list just a few, as it relates to social wellbeing. Whether you are a dance professional, new to the scene, or contemplating taking a class for the first time, we hope you enjoy this short article on the social benefits of social dance
Communication & Body Language
Social dance can teach you how to communicate nonverbally with gestures, expressions, and physical connection with your dance partner. Communication and consent are essential in social dance. While body language is an obvious aspect of communication in dance, it is important to get verbal consent from your dance partner, especially when doing complex or new moves, or dips and weight-sharing.
Expanding your Social Network
Meeting new people is a huge benefit to social dancing. You may meet people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests. Whether you are taking lessons, or attending socials/practicas, you are sure to meet new friends who also love dancing and, possibly, resonate with your other shared interests.
Self-Expression & Authentic Identity
With a supportive dance instructor and an inclusive dance community, you can feel self-assured that the true you will be accepted and appreciated. Being our authentic-selves is liberating and can allow us to connect with our body and spirit through music, self-expression, and connection with others. Find a studio or space to move where you feel free to express yourself in creative and playful ways, and to physically connect with others; life is too short to settle for anything less!
